Jacksonville Country Day School Donates Books to BOOKS-A-GO GO

The youngest students at Jacksonville Country Day School are learning early that the holiday season is not all about receiving gifts. Preprimary students and their families are donating age appropriate books for BOOKS-A-GO GO, a local organization that collects new and gently used children's books for youngsters in low-income families.

Duval County Public Schools is providing winter packets to the community to continue enriching the academic success of all students.

All K-12 students, parents and community members are encouraged to log onto www.duvalschools.org and print out grade appropriate materials for students during the winter break. Math, reading and science worksheets are available, as well as links to online assistance for all students.

Duval County Public Schools, the nation's 21st largest school district, serves approximately 123,000 students. The school district is committed to providing high quality educational opportunities that will inspire all students to acquire and use the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in a global economy, and culturally diverse world.

Foundation Academy Partnered with BJ's,  Provide Over 2,000 Pounds of Food to Second Harvest

BJ's wholesale matched canned goods collected by The Foundation Academy's students and faculty, donating over 2,000 pounds of food (equaling to 1,400 meals) to Second Harvest. Student Jesus Ortiz loads the boxes of canned goods (decorated as turkeys) onto the Second Harvest truck, where the donations are distributed to needy families for the holidays. The canned goods were collected from the VPK-12th school as part of their annual community service

Jacksonville Country Day School Holiday Sports Camp

Jacksonville Country Day School is hosting a holiday sports camp for boys and girls in kindergarten through sixth grade during the winter break from school. The camp is open to children throughout the Jacksonville community.

Duval County Increases 2010 High School Grades

Today, the Florida Department of Education released the 2010 High School grades. 84 percent of Duval County’s public high schools have maintained or improved a letter grade, while three schools declined a letter grade.

"Our high schools are embracing strategies to ensure that every student is college ready, and it is paying off," said Superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals. "These results are proof that our students, teachers, principals and staff are working hard so that all students achieve academic success."

Dr. Dawn Emerick, Executive Director of the Health Planning Council of Northeast Florida, will facilitate a kick-off meeting for the Concussions Study Council which consists of over 20 medical professionals and sports personnel.

Winter Jazz Night

Douglas Anderson School of the Arts is hosting the Winter Jazz Night in partnership with LaVilla School of the Arts. The jazz concert will feature the Douglas Anderson Alumni Jazz Combo, and the Jazz 1 and Jazz 2 bands from both Douglas Anderson and Lavilla School of the Arts.
