November is National Diabetes Awareness Month

Throughout the month of November, National Diabetes Awareness Month, the North Florida Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), the world's largest charitable funder of type 1 diabetes research, is teaming up with local businesses as well as the University of Florida to increase awareness of type 1 diabetes and to raise funds to help accelerate research leading to a cure for the disease and its complications.

Young Lady From Jacksonville Who Gave the Gift of Life to be Honored on 2011 Donate Life Rose Parade

Haley Moore was a compassionate 17-year-old who grew up in the Arlington area of Jacksonville, Fla. with her mom, dad and twin sister, Jessica. Days before starting her senior year at Terry Parker High School, Haley was involved in a tragic car accident. Haley died the next day on August 3, 2007 due to severe head trauma. With her decision to become an organ donor, Haley’s compassion lives on, giving life to those in desperate need.

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Announces the 11th Annual 65 Roses Golf & Tennis Classic, Nov. 13

Sporting a new name and the permanent addition of a women’s tennis tournament, The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation announces the 11th Annual 65 Roses Golf & Tennis Classic will be Saturday, November 13, at Jacksonville Golf & Country Club.

Proceeds from The 65 Roses Golf & Tennis Classic will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. 65 Roses is what some children with cystic fibrosis call their disease because the words are much easier for them to pronounce. For more than 40 years, 65 Roses has been used by children of all ages to describe their disease. The rose, appropriately the ancient symbol of love, has become a symbol of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

The tennis portion of the 65 Roses Golf & Tennis Classic will kick off the day at 9 a.m. to noon at the Jacksonville Golf and Country Club and will consist of women’s doubles matches.
