Haven Hospice to Host Inaugural Joes v. Pros Celebrity Softball Challenge

Haven Hospice and the Jacksonville Suns stadium will host the inaugural Joes v. Pros Celebrity Softball Challenge in Jacksonville.  Partnering with the University of North Florida baseball team, this fundraising event will be emceed by WJXT's Bruce Hamilton and will feature UNF’s Ospreys baseball team as the “pros” for the event.  This inaugural event will take place at the Jacksonville Suns stadium in Jacksonville, Florida.  Noon to 6 p.m., Sunday, December 5, 2010.

Tickets for the Mayor’s Holiday Festival for Senior Citizens are Now on Sale

Tickets for the Mayor’s Holiday Festival for Senior Citizens are now on sale.  Tickets are available for $8 each at the Mary L. Singleton Senior Center, 150 E. First St., and at City Hall at St. James, 117 W. Duval St., Suite 280 on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The event will be held Saturday, Dec. 4 at the Prime Osborn Convention Center,1000 Water St., from 2 - 5 p.m.

Community Conversation About School Reform in Jacksonville

As a follow-up to the recent release of education-reform documentary Waiting for Superman, the Jacksonville Public Education Fund is hosting a panel discussion with education leaders, followed by a community conversation to identify education reform priorities for the city.

The event will be held on Tuesday, November 9 at 6:00 p.m. in the conference center of the main branch of the Jacksonville Public Library, 303 N. Laura Street.

Daniel Guiding Hearts Gala: Moonlight Masquerade Raises Money for Kids in Crisis

More than 300 First Coast residents experienced an elegant Venetian masquerade and raised more than $107,000 to help abused, neglected and emotionally troubled children at the Daniel Guiding Hearts Gala: Moonlight Masquerade presented by Enterprise Integration at the Modis Building in Downtown Jacksonville on Saturday, Oct. 23.

Gala guests enjoyed cuisine from top area restaurants including Capital Grille, TacoLu, TPC Sawgrass, Mojo Kitchen, Matthew’s, Heirlooms and more.  Unique performers, including 12-foot tall stilt walkers and musicians dressed in period costumes, entertained the crowd. 

Taco Bell Donation Campaign Will Benefit Local Military Families

More than 400 Taco Bell restaurants will participate in the second annual “Freedom Bells” fundraiser, in support of the Armed Forces Families Foundation.

One hundred percent of donations made from Nov. 10-23 will go toward projects to benefit military families in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. 

State Parks Waive Entrance Fees for Veterans Day

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Florida Park Service will offer free day-use entrance to Florida State Parks on Thursday, November 11, 2010.

In honor of the services and sacrifices of United States veterans, their families and communities, day-use entrance to all of Florida State Parks will be waived to park visitors on Veterans Day. This offer does not include Skyway Fishing Pier State Park.

674 Children in Need of Holiday Gifts

Episcopal Children’s Services is launching its annual Holiday Outreach program this week. With the help of the community, the program will provide 674 children and families in Clay, Baker, Bradford, Union, Nassau and Duval counties with Holiday gifts.
