Sharks Free Pre-Season Game Feeds Thousands

The Jacksonville Sharks, in conjunction with Second Harvest Food Bank and MoveForHunger.org, proudly announce over 8,000 pounds of food was collected Monday, February 28, 2011. The food collected as donations to the free Sharks pre-season game will provide nearly 60,000 meals in North Florida.

The Sharks won in stunning fashion Monday night defeating South Division rival Tampa Bay Storm 56-19. Even more impressive was the response from the fans to the organizations request for canned food donations. “We asked our fans to bring a can of food to donate Monday night,” said Sharks managing partner Jeff Bouchy. “We challenged them to bring multiple cans if it was in their means. I’m pleased to say our fans, again, rose to the occasion and we were able to generate over four tons of food for Second Harvest. Our fans continue to be the best in the country. This is as much a win for them as it is for us.”

“Our staff enjoyed a wonderful and exciting night with the Jacksonville Sharks,” Second Harvest Executive Director Thomas Mantz said. “More than 8,500 pounds of food was collected, which is simply incredible for a one-day event. That will create nearly 60,000 meals for people in need throughout north Florida. We look forward to our continued partnership with the Sharks and to an exciting 2011 season.
