The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office nabbed five burglary suspects today accused in a series of local Best Buy burglaries.

William Alonzo, 19, Jeffery Plattes, 32 and Demarco Varnes-Appling, 21, were arrested on burglary charges Friday. A fourth suspect is still at large and a fifth suspect is in custody on related charges.

There were 11 cases total, police said today at a news conference, eight of which were in Duval County. One store was burglarized twice.

A total of $250,000 worth of merchandise was stolen. According to JSO, the group was burglarizing stores to fund a rap music career they were trying to start.

Today, police were undercover watching them around 3 a.m. at the Best Buy at 9355 Atlantic Blvd. Before they tried to break in, the suspects investigated the rear entrance, then left the store and returned a short time later to burglarize it. Police said the suspects used a sledgehammer to break through a rear concrete wall of the store to gain access.

They entered the store and removed merchandise, the police report said, but were arrested when they tried to leave the property about two hours later. One of the suspects, who tried to leave in a car, crashed into a police car.
