Man ID'd in deputy involved shooting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- An officer involved shooting early Tuesday morning left one person dead.

A routine traffic stop conducted at the 7400 block of Jasper Ave. by a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office deputy turned deadly when a passenger in the vehicle, allegedly fled during the stop, according to JSO Chief Tom Hackney.

The passenger has been identified as 23-year-old John Dawson Parker. According to JSO, Parker is the son of a Department of Corrections employee.

Parker led deputies on a short foot chase, was tackled by deputies and allegedly took a gun out of his wasteband and fired at deputies, JSO detailed. Deputies returned fire, killing Parker.

Parker has a lengthy criminal history going back to 2008. Some of his previous charges include armed robbery, drug possession, cocaine possession with intent to sell, burglary, battery and theft. Parker also has a history of resisting officers with violence.
