JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office homicide unit is investigating a man's death from an apparent shooting in the 5500 block of Playa Way on Friday night.

The victim is a black male, who is not being identified pending next of kin notification, according to Sgt. Lonnie Mills with JSO.

The shooting stemmed from a confrontation outside of an apartment complex. After the shooting, everyone fled, Mills said. It was not yet known how many times the victim was shot.

The only suspect information that was given by Mills was that of a black male wearing a mask. The investigation is still in the early stages.

Witnesses to the incident have been taken downtown for questioning.

Anyone with information is asked to call First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
