Former School Counselor Sentenced to 140 Years for Child Porn | News

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A former educator found guilty of federal child pornography charges will spend the rest of his life in prison.

United States Attorney Robert E. O'Neill announced this afternoon that Robert Allan Cowan was sentenced to 140 years in federal prison followed by a life term of supervised release.

He was found guilty in 2010 of using a minor to produce images of child pornography and receiving and possessing child pornography.  Cowan was arrested in 2009.

Cowan was a guidance counselor in Jacksonville from 1993 until 2006, when he left to become principal of Yulee Primary School.

In 2007, he returned to Jacksonville as assistant principal at Arlington Middle School, then in 2009 became a guidance counselor at Ft. Caroline Middle School.

At the time the investigation began in 2009, school district spokesperson Jill Johnson said Cowan was removed from his job.
