Riders take the bridges this Saturday to benefit JDRF

“Bikers Tracking a Cure For Diabetes,” is a motorcycle ride that will venture over five of Jacksonville’s bridges on Saturday morning, June 9 and hopes to generate significant revenue for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) North Florida Chapter’s outreach programs and research initiatives.

The JSO police-escorted ride, hosted by Balfour Beatty Rail, Inc. a rail infrastructure contractor company specializing in construction and maintenance services for the public and private railroad markets,  will start and finish at Adamec Harley-Davidson located at 8909 Baymeadows Road in Jacksonville. The route includes a ride down I-95, over the Fuller Warren, Acosta, Main Street and Dames Point bridges. The cost for a rider is $25 and a passenger is $15. Following the ride there will be live music, food, drinks, a silent auction and prizes. Bikers will take off at 10:30 a.m. and return around noon. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m.

Following the motorcycle ride event, Balfour Beatty Rail, Inc. is projecting to have generated $25,000 for JDRF in 2012 through corporate support, various fundraising events and employee initiatives.

“We are thrilled to have the support of Balfour Beatty Rail, Inc.,” said Brooks Biagini, Executive Director of the JDRF North Florida Chapter. “Corporations who are in a position to give back, such as Balfour Beatty Rail, Inc., who choose to invest in the community and become a partner with our organization make it possible for our mission to progress on, even in these challenging economic times. Research must continue and dollars are necessary for it to do so. The bike ride that Balfour Beatty Rail, Inc. is underwriting, planning and hosting is going to be a blast! I hope many from the community will come out to support the group, their efforts and JDRF’s mission of curing, treating and preventing type 1 diabetes and its complications!”

Next Saturday’s motorcycle ride of the bridges is open to the public.
