Diebenow Appointed to the JTA Board

Steven Diebenow has been appointed to the Jacksonville Transportation Authority’s board of directors by Mayor John Peyton. Diebenow will replace Donald P. Hinson who served since 2002, eight years.

Jaguars Game Has Special Meaning for Russ-Doe's Sandwich Shop Owners

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- At Russ-Doe's Sandwich shop, between the hot sandwiches and cold salads, there is room for football, lots of football.

On the wall are a football jersey and a picture of a player wearing the jersey - No. 11.  "Oh yeah, that's his number, that was his number in college," said Russell Smith Jr.

Smith's son Rusty Smith is a first-year quarterback for the Tennessee Titans; 11 is his number. 

"He's a good kid. He's worked hard, I ran for a lot of passes in the front yard and the backyard," said his father.

It took hard work and strong discipline, he said, like working around the family's Eastside sandwich shop.

"When he was 7... I started him parking cars out there, picking up the trash," he said. "We just talking about that this morning, he has fond memories."

Firehouse Subs Introduces New Life-Saving Pickle Bucket

Renowned for hearty, oversized portions and piping hot subs, Firehouse Subs unveiled their new pickle bucket, showcasing Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. The Foundation raises money throughout the restaurant chain to support fire fighters, police and EMS. All 395 restaurants sell their recycled pickle buckets for $2 a piece. Proceeds benefit Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, which gives back to public safety entities in communities, served by Firehouse Subs.

Nightclub that Arlington Neighbors Blame for Area Crime to Reopen as Sports Bar

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --  A Jacksonville nightclub in an Arlington neighborhood where a teen was shot to death in September is under new ownership. 

Horace James Jr., 14, was shot and killed last month outside Club Menage, which had just hosted a teen party.

It now will reopen as a sports bar but neighbors are waiting to see if old problems continue under a new name.

Sybil Holland is concerned has been concerned about the intersection near Menage not far from her home that disrupts the quiet of her neighborhood. "This is a nice neighborhood but it's scary," said Holland.

She's tired of crime at the corner of Arlington Road and University Boulevard and blames Club Menage for the majority of it. "The club needs to be closed and it needs to be closed completely," said Holland.
