Groundbreaking for Fitness and Training Center at Mayport Oct 14

Congressman Ander Crenshaw will attend and make remarks at the official groundbreaking for the Naval Station Mayport Fitness and Training center at Naval Station Mayport on Thursday, October 14.
The on-site groundbreaking is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

Capt. William Vaughn, Naval Station Mayport Public Works Officer will kick off the event and will be joined by Capt. Aaron Bowman, Naval Station Mayport Commanding Officer.

Crenshaw, a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans affairs, helped secured $27 million in funding in the Fiscal Year 2010 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill for the project. The new center will replace an outdated training and fitness center and will be used to increase the readiness of military personnel stationed at Naval Station Mayport. This project includes an indoor pool to allow for year-round rescue swimmer training so sailors don't have to travel off base for training.
