JSO: 1 critically injured in suspicious fire at Arlington home


JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Authorities were called out to the scene of a blaze in Arlington at a home on the 10000 block of Bahia Drive.ID=72551862

A 28-year-old black male was airlifted to UF Health with life-threatening injuries, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

The man reportedly had excessive burns over a good portion of his body.

There were four others in the home, including a 14-year-old, who were able to get out of the burning house on their own and are unhurt, JSO said.

The victims are staying with family.

A dog at the home did not survive the fire, police confirmed.

JSO is on scene and investigating what they call suspicious activity before the fire began.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The chief suspect in the disappearance of 21-month-old Lonzie Barton faces new charges following his arrest for an alleged plot to escape from the Duval County Pretrial Detention Facility.

William “Ruben” Ebron, 32, is accused of concocting a plot to stash keys in his sock and mouth and then use them to slip out of his handcuffs, jump out of a jail van and escape in a getaway car, according to a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office arrest report.

Investigators found out about the plan Monday when another inmate came forward with multiple recorded conversations detailing how Ebron allegedly planned to escape from custody. “Ebron directed the inmate to have the getaway car placed east of the jail,” the report said.

Ebron was arrested Thursday on charges of attempted escape from a jail, criminal conspiracy, unlawful possession of a concealed handcuff key, and smuggling contraband into a detention facility, all felonies, jail records show.

A family friend of 3 years, Lawrence Laganelli, is currently caring for the girl's sister.

Laganelli says the 8-year-old was in a playground with other children Monday night at an apartment complex off Justina Road. He said the girl then jumped on her bike and rode off to look for a cat.

"The little girl was out playing but she wandered away from the play area here because she was looking for a cat, her cat," Laganelli said.

Arlington neighborhood on watch following child being beaten


JACHSONVILLE, Fla. — An Arlington neighborhood is focused and on guard following the sexual attack of an 8-year-old girl early Monday evening that has had officers on location since the attack was called in.

A witnesses spotted the girl walking out of a wooded area in the 3100 block of North University Avenue which is directly across the street from Jacksonville University.

The girl is recovering at a local hospital. Police have not provided any details on suspect following an extensive search of the area on Tuesday.

In the apartments that border where police say the attack happened, residents have plenty to say.

"I know somebody knows about it, somebody knows something - knows something," said Stephanie Brown as she waited to catch a bus from the Eagle Pointe Apartments.

Down the street, a grandmother had a lot to say about what happened.
